5th-8th Place Teams Move on to the Second Round of the CCHA Playoffs
Last weekend, the CCHA had its first of three playoff rounds for their conference championship. The top four teams, No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 3 Michigan, No. 8 Miami of Ohio, and Alaska, moved on to the second round automatically and will host the round one winners. No. 14 Ohio State, Northern Michigan, Western Michigan, and Nebraska-Omaha advanced last weekend beating out Bowling Green, Michigan State, Lake Superior State, and Ferris State, respectively, to play the top four teams.

CCHA Goes Into Last Weekend of Regular Play Before Conference Playoffs
The upcoming weekend marks the last of regular 2008-2009 season games for teams in the CCHA. All 12 teams will play to solidify their conference ranking for the CCHA Championship playoffs. The top four teams will by-pass the first weekend of playoffs while teams 5-12 play March 6th-8th in the Championship’s first of three series. The top four teams will host winning teams the following week for round two.

CCHA Teams Secure Three of top Five Spots in the National Polls
This week No. 2 Notre Dame, No. 3 University of Michigan, and No. 4/5 Miami of Ohio grasped three of the top five spots in both the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine and USCHO.com/CBS College Sports Division I Men's polls. Each team came off weekend sweeps which resulted in two CCHA honors for Notre Dame and one for Michigan.

Northern Michigan Takes Two CCHA Weekly Honor
The Northern Michigan Wildcats earned two CCHA honors this week after their sweep of the Bowling Green State University Falcons. Sophomores Jared Brown and Erik Gustafsson were named CCHA Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively. This is the third week in a row Gustafsson received this honor.

Wolverines Break No. 1 Fighting Irish Winning Streak
The University of Michigan Wolverines traveled to the Joyce Center January 30th to play the then No. 1 ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Irish came into the game with a 20 game unbeaten streak, which the Wolverines stopped with a 2-1 win in Notre Dame’s sold out stadium. The Irish responded with a 3-2 win over the Wolverines January 31st at the Yost Arena – winning their first game there since December 8th, 2006.

Grosse Pointe Woods’ Andy Miele Named CCHA Offensive Player of the Week
Andy Miele of the No. 7 ranked Miami University was named the CCHA Offensive Player of the Week after the Redhawks’ two game sweep of the No. 13 Fighting Irish last week in South Bend, IN. Miele weaved and fought his way onto the scoreboard with two assists in Miami’s 2-0 victory over Notre Dame on Friday, October 24th. Then Miele went on to post another assist to teammate Gary Steffers in the first period of the second game on Saturday, October 25th.
