Fifth Third Bank Vault Awarded Downtown Alliance 2012 Downtown Award

Van Andel Arena Restaurant and Bar Earns Title for Best Kept Secret

The Downtown Awards is a program to recognize exceptional accomplishments in the ongoing investment in downtown Grand Rapids through seven different categories. Van Andel Arena’s Fifth Third Bank Vault, the arena’s own in-house restaurant and bar managed by Savor…Grand Rapids, a division of SMG, the management company for Van Andel Arena, has won the Downtown Award for Best Kept Secret. Now, it’s time to let the secret out.

Park once, dine in and see shows with little fuss or concerns about getting there on time. Beyond convenience, the restaurant offers outstanding food. Van Andel Arena Executive Chef Chris Simpson has been awarded the 'Chef of the Year' award by the American Culinary Federation's Grand Rapids Chapter, and Chef Andrew Eggert was awarded as 'Chef Professional of the Year' for his work at Van Andel Arena and in the community.

“Fifth Third is proud to support the efforts to bring people downtown which is exactly what the arena does,” said Fifth Third Bank President, Mary Tuuk.  “The Fifth Third Bank Vault adds to an already great Van Andel Arena experience. We would agree with our partners at SMG in saying that good things like this should never be kept quiet.”

Patrons can find the Fifth Third Bank Vault Inside the arena’s north end, just past the stairs and escalators leading to the concourse level.  In the past, this area (traditionally a row of banquet rooms) was reserved for private and corporate parties. The Fifth Third Bank Vault is now open to anyone who has gained admission to an event. Patrons can dine before, during or even after Griffins games, concerts or many of the arena’s shows/events.

“On behalf of Savor, SMG and Van Andel Arena, we are very excited to be named the Best Kept Secret in Grand Rapids! Now that the secret is out, we would like to invite you to join us before and during hockey games, concerts and family events. Come in and join us to find out what the talk is about – but don’t keep it a secret!” said Fifth Third Bank Vault Restaurant Manager, Lauren Doa.

Through the Downtown Awards, the Downtown Alliance hopes to focus attention on the growth and investment that continues in downtown, even through rough financial times.  The point is to recognize individual businesses for the work they are doing, and doing well, while inspiring additional renovation and high quality design. Last, they encourage people to visit downtown Grand Rapids. The public was able to vote for the projects of their choice.
