The sculpture of Jay Van Andel, Amway co-founder, business leader and philanthropist, was unveiled in its permanent place on the Van Andel Arena plaza on July 20, 2011. This sculpture is the third in a series of sculptures for the Grand Rapids Community Legends Sculpture Project.
Jay Van Andel, business leader and generous philanthropist (1924-2004), is known worldwide as the co-founder of Amway Corporation. Jay and his wife, Betty, contributed significantly to the economic development of the Grand Rapids community, arts, education and health care, including the founding of the Van Andel Institute for Education and Medical Research.
This sculpture was created by nationally acclaimed sculptor and painter J. Brett Grill. Notably, his bronze sculpture of Gerald R. Ford is featured in the rotunda in the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. as part of the National Statuary Hall Collection and will soon have a second cast of this work in front of the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Library and Museum.
