EAMC & SMG Award Winners

SMG-managed Venues Van Andel Arena® and DeVos Performance Hall Enjoy a Rewarding Week at Live Entertainment Marketing Conferences

Last week was an award-filled one for the marketing staff at SMG, the worldwide venue management company that operates Van Andel Arena, DeVos Place®, and DeVos Performance Hall.

The annual Event & Arena Marketing Conference (EAMC) hosted the fifth EAMC Awards ceremony last week at Canada’s Hilton Toronto, recognizing the most innovative, strategic and results-driven professionals in the live entertainment industry.  Venue marketers, promoters and publicists from across North America submitted entries for several awards judged by industry experts. The top entries were then selected by EAMC attendees.

Among this year’s winners were SMG-managed Van Andel Arena for Most Creative Artist Welcome for their partnership with the Pamella Roland DeVos School of Fashion Studies of Kendall College of Art & Design of Ferris State University (KCAD Fashion Studies) to design an Elton John-inspired outfit to welcome the iconic musician to Grand Rapids in October of last year.

Prior to EAMC, SMG hosted its own Marketing Summit with their annual awards ceremony to honor winners in nine categories. The Grand Rapids team took home a trio of SMG Marketing Awards as well: Best Public Relations Idea for the partnership with KCAD, Best Social Media Promotion for their pair of Kesha promotions (“Colors of the Rainbow” and “Animals”) on the Van Andel Arena Instagram account, and Best Event Poster Venue Created for a poster advertising The Series: Creative Expressions of African-American Culture; Dance Theatre of Harlem at DeVos Performance Hall.

Later in the week at an industry event hosted by World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), Van Andel Arena was awarded the “Money in the Bank” Award for the Midwest Region, which is given to venues based on the success of WWE events at the venue and the support that WWE received from venue staff.

“This is an incredible honor for our marketing team, as well as all of our staff in Grand Rapids and SMG corporate,” said SMG Regional General Manager Richard MacKeigan. “We recognize the immense talent in this industry, so it is both humbling and reassuring to be on the receiving end this time around. It’s a testament to the hard work we put in, the support from our community in Grand Rapids, and the confidence provided to us by the Grand Rapids-Kent County Convention/Arena Authority.”
