Grand Rapids — Worldwide concert industry magazine VenuesNow released its 2018 Midwest Top Stops list with its most recent issue, and the SMG-managed venues in Grand Rapids have found themselves near the top of their respective categories.

Despite being the smallest venue to make the list, DeVos Performance Hall ranked #4 among venues with a capacity between 2,001 – 5,000, and Van Andel Arena slotted in at #6 among venues with a capacity between 10,001 – 15,000. Both lists ranked venues by total number of tickets sold from February 1, 2017 – January 31, 2018.

Trailing only the Orpheum Theatre (Minneapolis, MN), Fox Theatre (Detroit, MI), and Chicago Theatre (Chicago, IL), DeVos Performance Hall sold over 230,000 tickets during the list’s timeframe. Some of the shows contributing to the number include Bill Engvall, Aretha Franklin, #IMOMSOHARD, Broadway Grand Rapids’ presentation of Wicked, ZZ Top, and many others.

Van Andel Arena also saw high marks with over 190,000 tickets sold to 23 reported events, including Eric Church, Tim McGraw & Faith Hill, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kid Rock, Bob Seger, and Amy Grant & Michael W. Smith to name a few. Only the Denny Sanford Premier Center (Sioux Falls, SD) has a smaller capacity among the venues to appear as a Midwest Top Stop.

“The SMG Grand Rapids staff and I are grateful to be in an excellent environment of support here in West Michigan,” said SMG Regional General Manager Richard MacKeigan. “The community and the Grand Rapids-Kent County Convention/Arena Authority have allowed us to show the industry that Grand Rapids is a must-play market. The support of the SMG network of facilities as well as corporate office has kept us as a must-play market for over 20 years now. We are as pleased to appear on this top stops list as we are to be located in this dynamic and vibrant community of Grand Rapids.”
