Grand Rapids — ASM Global-managed Van Andel Arena was home to a blood drive hosted by The American Red Cross of Michigan earlier this week. On Tuesday, May 26, the arena doors opened for people who had booked an appointment in advance to give blood.
The drive was held in three of the arena’s banquet rooms between 11:00 AM and 4:45 PM with over 30 people walking through the arena’s doors to make their donation. All available time slots were filled weeks before the drive took place via the Red Cross website and phone lines.
Event organizers said the blood collected from donors will be able to save up to 72 lives and called the event a “huge success.”
“Van Andel Arena’s purpose is to serve the community, and now more than ever it feels good to be able to use the venue to help make a difference,” said Richard MacKeigan, ASM Global Regional General Manager of Van Andel Arena and DeVos Place. “We are delighted to have played host to a successful event for a great cause. Hats off to the Red Cross, those who volunteered to donate, and everyone who helped bring this together.”
The American Red Cross of the Michigan Region is comprised of six Chapters and nine Blood Donation Centers that serve more than 9 million people in 83 counties.
